Top New Hindi Movies on OTT
Here’s our curated list of the latest Bollywood movies on OTT.
Darlings
Darlings is a dark revenge comedy touted as one of the best Hindi movies on OTT this year. It tells the tale of Badru (Alia Bhatt), a lower-middle-class woman routinely abused by her husband Hamza (Vijay Varma). When Hamza crosses all limits of physical abuse, Badru vows revenge, aided by her mum (the stupendous Shefali Shah). What happens when Hamza gets a taste of his own medicine? Stream Darlings on Netflix to find out.
Badhaai Do
The movie equivalent of a warm fuzzy blanket on a cold winter night, Badhaai Do, is a sensitively-crafted movie about rainbow marriages. Closeted cop Shardul (Rajkumar Rao) and P.Ed teacher Suman (Bhumi Pednekar) enter a marriage of convenience to hide their respective sexualities and appease their conservative families. Things get complicated when Suman’s unhinged girlfriend comes to live with the couple. You can stream Badhaai Do on Netflix.
Jhund
Sports biographies are all the rage now, and the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund (streaming on Zee5) is no exception. The inspiring movie follows social worker, NGO activist and retired sports teacher Vijay Barse’s life. It explores Barse’s attempts to keep children from the slums away from a life of drugs and crime. He coaches them to focus their energy and time in to doing something productive – like playing soccer.
Sharmaji Namkeen
A light-hearted comedy starring the late Rishi Kapoor, Sharmaji Namkeen follows a 58-year-old widower who copes with his forced early retirement by reigniting his love for food. He’s hired to cater kitty parties, which does not sit well with his children, and chaos ensues. The film, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, also stars Paresh Rawal (as Sharmaji). Rawal graciously took over the role after Kapoor’s untimely passing.
Shabaash Mithu
That women in cricket undergo twice the hardships to earn half the fame and fortune is no hidden secret. This is the story of the Taapsee Pannu starrer Shabaash Mithu, based on the life of cricket legend Mithali Raj. The biographical film streaming on Netflix chronicles Raj’s unconventional career path from a cricket prodigy to the skipper who led the Indian team into the 2017 Cricket World Cup Finals.
