The film was announced by its lead actor Akshay Kumar on August 3, 2021.The date was special because it was the day the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated last year. As shooting for the film began, actor Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of Lala Kedarnath in it, notably spoke about the special relationship he shared with his sister, Alka Hiranandani. Calling her his ‘first friend’, Kumar went on to dedicate the movie in her name. Hiranandani is one of the co-producers of the film along with Aanand L Rai and writer, Himanshu Sharma. The film was written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, who incidentally got married in 2021. Individually, the writer duo has an impressive filmography. Sharma has written, produced and won accolades and awards (including two National Awards) for movies such as Tanu Weds Manu series, Raanjhanaa, and Atrangi Re among others. 4) Debut film for three actors who played Akshay’s on-screen sisters
Raksha Bandhan is a family comedy-drama film themed on the special bond shared by brothers and sisters. In the film, Akshay Kumar plays Lala Kedarnath, a brother to four sisters named Gayatri, Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. The roles were essayed by actors Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna. While Khateeb has worked in a film before, the other three actors made their debut with Raksha Bandhan. The film’s promotional tour saw the five on-screen siblings travelling together.
